Battle-Ready Viking Round Shield “KNOTENWACHT” in Wood with Steel Fittings

The Viking round shield “KNOTENWACHT” combines a robust, battle-ready construction with particularly striking metal decoration. Dark wood, numerous steel fittings and the large Nordic-inspired knotwork design give the shield a powerful and distinctive appearance.

The most eye-catching feature is found on the front. An elaborate steel construction forms a large symmetrical pattern of interwoven knotwork. Additional engraved lines and interlacing ornaments enhance its Nordic-inspired character, while the dark wooden surface provides a strong contrast to the bright metal decoration.

The outer edge of the shield is also surrounded by numerous riveted steel fittings. Their curved shape continues the decorative character of the front and complements the large central ornament to create a cohesive overall design.

The reverse is designed with practical handling in mind. Riveted padding covered with soft leather provides additional comfort when carrying the shield. Two leather straps are also securely riveted to the back for holding and carrying it.

One of these leather straps is long and adjustable. This allows “KNOTENWACHT” to be carried on the arm or across the back as required. Together with the padded reverse, the strap system makes the shield a functional piece of equipment for historical portrayals and stage combat.

Thanks to its distinctive metal decoration, “KNOTENWACHT” is suitable not only for stage combat and reenactment. It also makes an impressive piece for living history, LARP and medieval events as well as a decorative wall shield or prop for photography, theatre, film and television productions.
