Viking Round Shield “JÖRMUNGAND” in Wood with Nordic Beast Motif

The Viking round shield “JÖRMUNGAND” is an impressive piece of equipment with a distinctive Nordic design. Its front is decorated with four arranged dragons or beasts. The motif can also be interpreted as a representation of the Midgard Serpent, giving the shield a particularly mythical character.

The round shield is made from sturdy laminated plywood. At its centre is a domed steel shield boss that contributes to the characteristic appearance of historically inspired round shields. Four decorative cast brass fittings complete the front and provide an attractive contrast to the painted design and steel boss.

The outer edge of the shield is covered with leather, enhancing its rustic appearance. A solid wooden handle is fitted to the reverse for holding the shield.

With its combination of Nordic animal ornamentation, metal fittings and classic round-shield design, “JÖRMUNGAND” makes a striking addition to Viking and medieval portrayals. It is particularly suitable as an equipment piece for reenactment, living history, LARP and costumes as well as a prop for stage, photography, film and television productions or as a decorative collector's piece.
