Norman Shield “ROBERT” in Wood with Steel Cross and Shield Boss
The Norman shield “ROBERT” features the characteristic elongated shield form closely associated with Norman warriors of the 11th and 12th centuries. Its tapering profile and understated decoration give it a distinctive medieval appearance.
The wooden surface has a clear-coated finish, retaining the dark colour and natural character of the material. A large steel cross forms the dominant feature on the front. Broad steel bands extend vertically and horizontally across the shield and are securely riveted to the wooden body.
A domed steel shield boss is positioned at the intersection of the cross. Together with the metal edging around the shield, it creates a strong visual contrast against the dark wooden surface and contributes to the shield's simple, functional appearance.
Five leather straps are fitted to the reverse, providing different options for holding and carrying the shield. A long carrying strap also allows the shield to be transported more comfortably when required.
With its characteristic shape and prominent steel cross, “ROBERT” is particularly suitable for Norman and High Medieval-inspired portrayals, reenactment, living history and medieval events. It also makes a striking display piece, wall decoration or prop for photography, theatre, film and television productions.
