Viking Round Shield “ORMR” with Hand-Painted Beast Motif
The Viking round shield “ORMR” is hand-painted with an intricately intertwined beast or dragon motif. Animal designs of this kind are a recurring element of Viking Age art and give the shield its distinctive Norse-inspired character.
The serpent-like appearance of the creature allows for different interpretations. It may represent a Nordic dragon or beast and can also be viewed as a free interpretation of Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent. The design, however, is not definitively identified as a specific mythological creature.
The round shield is constructed from plywood approximately 13 mm thick. Its outer edge is reinforced with steel, while a sturdy solid-wood hand grip is fitted to the reverse.
The steel shield boss is included and supplied separately. It can be attached to the centre of the shield using the supplied rivets, and its generously sized dome provides ample room for the hand.
Due to its comparatively light and thin construction, “ORMR” is not intended for full-contact combat. It is well suited to reenactment, LARP and Viking costumes as well as stage productions, photography, film and television. Its hand-painted design also makes it an attractive collector's piece, display shield or decorative item.

Scope of Delivery
The round shield is supplied with a steel shield boss and the rivets required for mounting it. The shield boss must be attached to the shield by the customer.
As the design is hand-painted, minor variations in colour and finish may occur. The stated dimensions, weight and other specifications may also vary slightly from piece to piece.
