Viking Round Shield “KJARTAN” with Hand-Painted Celtic Cross

The colourful Viking round shield “KJARTAN” is a distinctive accessory for enthusiasts of Norse and medieval-inspired portrayals. Its front is covered with linen and elaborately hand-painted with a large Celtic cross surrounded by interwoven knotwork ornamentation.

The dark-red background creates a striking contrast with the lighter decorative elements and their blue outlines. At the centre sits a steel shield boss, reinforcing the characteristic appearance of a historical-style round shield.

The shield itself is made from plywood and features a sturdy solid-wood hand grip on the reverse. The back is painted black and deliberately kept simple.

The steel shield boss supplied with the shield is delivered separately and can be attached using the included rivets. Its generously sized dome provides ample room for the hand.

Due to its comparatively light and thin construction, “KJARTAN” is not intended for full-contact combat. It is, however, an attractive accessory for reenactment and LARP as well as costumes, stage productions, photography, film and television. Its elaborate decoration also makes it an excellent collector's piece, display item or decorative wall shield.
