Viking Round Shield “GUNNAR” in Wood – Blank with Canvas and Iron Boss
The Viking round shield “GUNNAR” combines a plain, customisable front with a robust construction. This large round shield is suitable for reenactment as well as light stage combat or sparring, while its unpainted canvas covering allows the appearance to be personalised according to your own ideas.
The shield body consists of three layers of MDF (medium-density fibreboard). The front is covered with sturdy natural-coloured canvas that is firmly attached to the shield. The fabric has deliberately been left unpainted, providing a practical surface for your own colours and motifs. “GUNNAR” can therefore be decorated with Nordic-inspired ornaments, animal motifs, geometric patterns or an individual shield design.
The outer edge of the shield is covered with rawhide. This untanned material creates a durable border around the shield and helps protect the particularly exposed outer edge during its intended use.
A generously sized steel shield boss is fitted at the centre. It provides ample room for the hand and is securely fixed to the shield body with four nails. At the same time, the boss covers and protects the central hand opening.
Three nailed pinewood reinforcement strips are fitted to the reverse for additional stability. The central strip also serves as the hand grip. Around the shield opening, the grip has been rounded to provide a more comfortable hold when carrying and handling the shield.
Thanks to its unpainted front, “GUNNAR” is particularly suitable for reenactors who want to customise their shield to match their own equipment. In addition to reenactment and light stage combat, it can be used for living history, medieval events and individually decorated props for photography, theatre, film and television productions.
