Viking Sword “KONRAD” – SK-B Reenactment Sword with Brazil-Nut Pommel
The Viking sword “KONRAD” represents the transformation European swords underwent during the transition towards the High Middle Ages. Traditional Viking swords with broad, slowly tapering blades and characteristic multi-part pommels gradually developed towards the forms associated with later medieval swords.
This faithful replica reflects precisely this development. Instead of the characteristic three-lobed pommel of earlier Viking swords, it features a distinctive Brazil-nut pommel. The guard also displays a more recognisably medieval form, with the short and substantial guard of earlier swords replaced by a thinner and elongated classical cross guard.
The blade is forged from high-quality EN45 spring steel and hardened to approximately 48–50 HRC. A pronounced fuller runs along the blade, helping to reduce weight while retaining the flexibility required for a reenactment sword.
“KONRAD” is specifically the reenactment version of this sword. Both the cutting edges and blade point are blunt and rounded. The striking edge is approximately 2 mm thick, and the sword is classified as SK-B combat quality.
The blade tang extends through the entire grip to the pommel, where it is peened by hand. The grip itself is wrapped with leather cord. Together with the Brazil-nut pommel and elongated cross guard, these features create the characteristic appearance of a sword from the transitional period between the Viking Age and the High Middle Ages.
An elaborately finished scabbard is included. It consists of a wooden core covered in leather and features a wooden belt loop suitable for belts up to approximately 5 cm wide. A richly decorated brass chape forms the ornamental lower fitting of the scabbard.
“KONRAD” is particularly suitable for reenactment combat and historical portrayals. Its transitional design between Viking and medieval sword forms also makes it an interesting choice for living history as well as stage, photography, film and television productions.

Reenactment Combat Notice
This model is the blunt SK-B reenactment version. Despite its construction for reenactment combat, the sword should always be used appropriately and inspected for damage and wear before and after each use. Like all swords regularly used for reenactment combat, it is naturally subject to wear over time.
Care Instructions
EN45 spring steel is not stainless. Protect the blade from moisture and clean and thoroughly dry it after use. Regularly applying a thin coat of suitable maintenance oil will help protect the steel against corrosion.
