Sax – Viking Knife by Windlass
The Sax was widely used throughout Northern Europe and carried by Saxons, Angles, Vikings, and other Germanic tribes. It likely appeared before the fall of the Roman Empire and remained in use into the early Middle Ages.
The profile of this single-edged blade type varied considerably, ranging from small utility knives to large sword-like forms. This reproduction is based on historical remains now displayed in the British Museum.
Manufactured by Windlass Steelcrafts, this Sax features a blade made of 1055 carbon steel and is delivered unsharpened. The guard and distinctive lobed pommel are made of brass, reflecting traditional design elements.
The wooden handle is fitted with brass studs to enhance grip and visual detail. With an overall length of approx. 47.7 cm and a weight of approx. 459 g, the knife offers a balanced and comfortable feel.
