Ulfberht Viking Sword “INGVAR” – Reproduction with 1065 Carbon Steel Blade
The Viking sword “INGVAR” is inspired by the famous Ulfberht swords and reflects an important development in Viking Age sword construction. Earlier swords were often assembled from several forge-welded iron and steel components, while Ulfberht swords represented a significant advance in both construction and material selection.
These swords employed high-quality carbon steel with sufficient carbon content to produce highly capable blades. Their design also developed further: the blade tapered more strongly towards the point than many earlier sword forms. According to the original description, this brought the mass closer to the hand, allowing quicker strikes and faster recovery.
Blade Etching Based on the Historical Original
One of the most distinctive details of “INGVAR” is the etching applied to both sides of the blade. It is based on the historical original and gives this reproduction its characteristic Ulfberht appearance.
The blade is made from high-carbon 1065 steel and is designed with balanced handling in mind. The combination of material, blade geometry and weight distribution gives the sword its distinctive character.
Brazil-Nut Pommel and Leather-Wrapped Grip
The grip has a wooden core wrapped in leather. A substantial steel guard forms the transition between grip and blade. The pommel has the characteristic Brazil-nut shape, a form that was popular during the period both among Vikings and elsewhere in Europe.
A matching scabbard is included and completes the overall appearance of the sword.
With its characteristic Ulfberht styling, “INGVAR” is particularly suitable for collectors, historical portrayals, reenactment and living history.
