What is Damascus Steel?
Damascus steel refers to a composite steel made by combining two or more different types of steel. Traditionally, a harder high-carbon steel and a softer lower-carbon steel can be joined through repeated forge welding and folding.
The purpose of this technique is to combine different material properties. The higher-carbon steel contributes hardness and hardenability, while softer steel layers can provide additional flexibility and resistance to breakage.
Another characteristic feature is the visible pattern created by the different steel layers. Depending on the manufacturing process, a variety of structures and patterns can emerge. The sword comes with a matching scabbard featuring a wooden core wrapped in leather. Both the throat and chape are made from bronze, visually complementing the bronze elements of the sword hilt.
The scabbard also features a bronze bracket serving as a belt loop, suitable for belts up to approximately 5 cm wide. Sword and scabbard therefore form a visually coordinated set.
