Viking Sword “JARL” – Hand-Forged Damascus Sword by Cold Steel®
The Viking sword “JARL” by Cold Steel® is an elaborately furnished, Nordic-inspired sword featuring a hand-forged Damascus blade. Its fully sharpened blade, natural wooden grip and distinctive hilt construction give the sword a particularly impressive appearance.
For the guard and pommel, Cold Steel® draws upon design elements associated with Viking Age examples. Particularly striking is their construction from alternating layers of brass and steel, which, together with the highly polished finish, creates an attractive contrast with the patterned Damascus blade.
Hand-Forged and Fully Sharpened Damascus Blade
The blade is hand-forged from Damascus steel and supplied fully sharpened. Its layered construction produces the characteristic Damascus pattern, which can vary naturally from one sword to another.
As this is a fully sharpened sword, “JARL” is not intended for reenactment combat, stage fighting or direct blade-to-blade contact.
Wooden Grip with Elaborate Hilt
Each sword features a wooden grip whose natural grain and colour may vary slightly. The guard and pommel are designed in Viking style and polished to a high-gloss finish.
A distinctive feature is the use of alternating layers of brass and steel. According to the manufacturer, this construction takes inspiration from Viking Age examples and gives the hilt its striking multi-toned appearance.
Wood-and-Leather Scabbard with Brass Fittings
A matching wood-and-leather scabbard is included. An integrated belt loop allows the scabbard to be worn from a belt.
The throat and chape are made from brass and feature decorative embossed detailing, continuing the elaborate appearance of the sword's hilt throughout the scabbard.
About Damascus Steel
Damascus steel is a composite material consisting of two or more different types of steel. Traditionally, harder high-carbon and softer lower-carbon steels can be combined through repeated forge welding and folding.
Historically, this technique made it possible to combine different material characteristics. Higher-carbon components could contribute hardness, hardenability and edge retention, while softer components could provide additional flexibility and resistance to breakage.
The different steel layers also produce the characteristic Damascus pattern. Because this pattern results from the manufacturing process, its exact appearance can vary from sword to sword. The striking appearance of such blades also contributed to Damascus swords sometimes being attributed special or even magical properties during the Middle Ages.

Care Instructions
Damascus steel should be consistently protected from moisture. Clean and thoroughly dry the blade after handling or use and regularly apply a thin coat of suitable weapon or maintenance oil to help protect the steel surface against corrosion. The sword should not be stored in a damp scabbard for extended periods.
