Viking Steel Knife with Wood and Bone Handle – Medieval Knife with Knotwork
The seax was a single-edged, one-handed knife of Germanic origin that served both as a tool and as a weapon. Depending on its design, the seax ranged from the compact short seax to the long seax, which was typically carried horizontally at the belt in a scabbard. From the 5th to the 10th century, the seax was one of the characteristic edged weapons of the Germanic world and was used by Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, among others.
This Viking-inspired knife combines the characteristic shape of early medieval knives with an elaborately designed handle. The robust carbon steel blade is complemented by a distinctive handle made of wood and bone, decorated with ornamental knotwork in a Nordic style.
The detailed craftsmanship of the handle and its intricate ornamentation are particularly eye-catching. Together with the wooden scabbard with leather covering, brass fittings, suspension rings and decorative bone applications, it creates an impressive historical appearance that is well suited to Viking, medieval and reenactment portrayals.
Nordic knotwork and intertwined animal and ribbon ornaments are among the best-known decorative elements of early medieval Scandinavian art. This knife incorporates this characteristic visual language and combines it with a Viking-inspired knife design.
This Viking knife is designed primarily as a collector's or decorative piece and also makes an excellent prop for completing a Viking or medieval costume. It is well suited to reenactment, LARP, stage productions, film and television.
