Damascus Steel Viking Seax with Wooden Handle and White Goatskin Sheath
The seax was originally a single-edged, one-handed Germanic cutting and utility knife that served both as a tool and as a weapon. Depending on its design, its size ranged from the compact short seax to the impressive long seax, which was generally carried horizontally at the belt. From the 5th to the 10th century, the seax was one of the characteristic edged weapons of the Germanic world and was used by Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, among others.
This impressive seax combines historically inspired styling with fine craftsmanship. The blade is made of Damascus steel and features the characteristic pattern created during the forging process. As every Damascus blade develops an individual pattern, each piece has its own unique appearance. The blade tip is not rounded and the cutting edges are lightly sharpened.
The carefully crafted handle is made of wood. A contrasting dark wooden section in the centre of the handle is framed by two brass rings, creating an elegant decorative accent. A brass collar forms the transition to the blade, while the brass pommel cap is fitted with a practical eyelet. This can be used to attach a carrying cord and also makes it easier to draw the seax from its sheath.
The seax comes complete with an elaborate white goatskin sheath featuring decorative brass fittings. An additional leather layer inside provides the necessary stability and helps protect the blade. Integrated fur suspension loops allow the seax to be carried horizontally on a belt.
