Viking Axe “FALKI” – Hand-Forged Petersen Type M Axe
The axe was one of the most versatile tools of the Viking Age. Depending on its design, it could be used for felling trees, building ships, houses and furniture, or as a weapon. The shape and dimensions of an axe head varied according to its intended purpose.
Alongside simple working tools, elaborately decorated axes are also known and could serve as symbols of status, with some examples being deposited as grave goods. Viking axes remain among the most recognisable objects associated with the early medieval period and are popular with collectors as well as frequently appearing as props in films, television series and video games.
Petersen Type M Axe Head
The head of the Viking axe “FALKI” follows the Petersen Type M form. The axe head is hand-forged from carbon steel, combining its characteristic shape with a deliberately rustic early medieval appearance.
The long haft is made from sturdy ash wood. As wood is a natural material, variations in colour and grain can occur, giving each example a slightly individual appearance.
Collector's Piece, Decoration and Historical Prop
In its supplied configuration, this early medieval axe is primarily designed as a collector's and decorative item. It also makes a suitable prop for historical costumes and portrayals as well as photography, film, television and similar productions.
According to the manufacturer, its construction and material thickness also allow the axe to be modified for different purposes by someone with the appropriate skills. The axe head can be sharpened further to create a more functional working axe. Alternatively, the edges and points can be rounded and the cutting edge ground blunt to adapt the axe for possible reenactment combat.
Important: The axe as supplied should not be regarded as suitable for reenactment combat merely because such modifications are possible. Appropriate modification and a competent inspection of the complete axe are required before considering it for this purpose.

Care Instructions
The carbon steel used for this axe is not stainless and may occasionally show slight traces of corrosion. Protect the axe head from moisture and clean and thoroughly dry it after handling or use. Regularly applying a thin coat of suitable maintenance oil, such as Ballistol, will help protect the steel against corrosion.
