Viking Bearded Axe “GOTLAND” – Based on a Swedish Find

The bearded axe, known in Old Norse as Skeggøx, was widely used from the early medieval period through to the end of the Viking Age. Its name refers to the characteristic lower extension of the axe head, known as the “beard”. Axes of this type could serve both as practical tools and as weapons.
