Hanwei Norman Sword “RAOUL” – SK-B Reenactment Sword Inspired by the 11th Century
The Norman sword “RAOUL” is a particularly lightweight and well-balanced medieval one-handed sword. Its design is inspired by Norman swords of the 11th century and it is made by the renowned Paul Chen / Hanwei forge.
The hardened blade is made from AISI 1090 carbon steel and has a Rockwell hardness of approximately 50 HRC. The tang extends through the entire hilt to the pommel and is peened at the end of the grip, providing a strong connection between the blade and hilt.
For fencing and reenactment combat, the blade point has been rounded. The striking edge measures approximately 2.5 to 3 mm in thickness, and the sword is classified as SK-B combat quality.
The grip is made from wood and wrapped in leather for a secure hold. Both the cross guard and pommel are made from steel. Combined with its balanced weight distribution, this creates a comparatively lightweight and manoeuvrable Norman one-handed sword.
A robust fibreglass scabbard is included to provide increased protection against impacts. The scabbard is decorated with metal fittings and equipped with two leather straps for attachment.
With its 11th-century inspiration and SK-B construction, “RAOUL” is suitable for reenactment combat and historical portrayals. It can also complement living history presentations and equipment for stage, photography, film and television productions.

Reenactment Combat Notice
This SK-B sword is designed for fencing and reenactment combat. Extremely forceful edge-on-edge strikes or impacts against other hard objects are not considered proper use and may damage or ultimately break the blade.
A reenactment sword is also subject to natural wear during regular use. The sword should therefore be carefully inspected before and after use for possible damage, particularly along the blade and striking edges.
Care Instructions
The AISI 1090 carbon steel used for the blade is not stainless and should be protected from moisture. Clean and thoroughly dry the blade after use and regularly apply a thin coat of suitable maintenance oil to help protect the steel against corrosion.
Safety Notice
Even a blunt reenactment sword can cause injury if used improperly or carelessly. The sword should only be used in accordance with its intended combat classification and with appropriate protective equipment.
