Hanwei Viking Sword “GODFRED” – Practical SK-B Reenactment Sword
The Viking sword “GODFRED” is a Practical sword developed by Paul Chen for Hanwei and designed for light reenactment combat. Its design is based on the well-known Gottfried sword of the 9th century, combining Viking Age-inspired styling with a functional construction intended for reenactment and fencing.
The hardened blade is made from AISI 1090 carbon steel and reaches a Rockwell hardness of approximately 50 HRC. Its tang extends through the entire hilt to the pommel and is peened at the end of the grip, creating a strong connection between the blade and hilt construction.
The blade point has been rounded for its intended use. The striking edge measures approximately 2.5 to 3 mm in thickness. The sword is classified as SK-B and, according to the manufacturer, is intended for light reenactment combat and fencing.
The grip has a wooden core wrapped in leather. Both the guard and pommel are made from steel, completing the simple and functional appearance of this Viking sword.
A wood-look fibreglass scabbard is included. This construction provides increased protection against impacts while retaining the appearance of a traditional sword scabbard. It is decorated with metal fittings and equipped with two leather straps for attachment.
With its design based on the 9th-century Gottfried sword and its SK-B construction, “GODFRED” is particularly suited to light reenactment combat, reenactment and historical portrayals. It can also complement living history presentations and equipment for photography, stage, film and television productions.

Reenactment Combat Notice
This SK-B sword is designed for light reenactment combat and fencing. Extremely forceful edge-on-edge strikes or impacts against other hard objects are not considered proper use. Such excessive stress may damage the blade and, in extreme cases, cause it to break.
A reenactment sword used regularly is naturally subject to wear. The sword should therefore be carefully inspected for damage and signs of wear before and after use.
Care Instructions
The AISI 1090 carbon steel used for the blade is not stainless. Protect the blade from moisture and clean and thoroughly dry it after use. Regularly applying a thin coat of suitable maintenance oil will help protect the steel against corrosion.

Even a blunt reenactment sword can cause injury if used improperly or carelessly. The sword should only be used in accordance with its intended combat classification and with appropriate protective equipment.
