Viking Sword “SKARD” – Single-Edged Viking Sword by Cold Steel®
While most well-known Viking swords feature double-edged blades, historical examples with single-edged blades and upswept points are also known. The Viking sword “SKARD” by Cold Steel® takes inspiration from this less common form.
This model is not an exact reproduction of one specific historical sword. Instead, its design combines various features associated with Viking swords to create an individual interpretation.
Broad Single-Edged Blade with Upswept Point
The blade is made from carbon steel and is distinguished by its unusually broad profile. It is widest near the guard and gradually tapers towards its characteristic upward-curving point.
An extra-wide fuller further defines the blade profile and contributes to the distinctive appearance of this single-edged Viking sword.
The supplied product information explicitly describes the sword as single-edged. However, it does not provide a more specific statement regarding the exact degree of sharpness of the cutting edge.
Traditionally Styled Hilt
The hilt has a deliberately simple and traditional appearance. A relatively short guard separates the blade from the grip.
The grip itself is made from wood and wrapped in brown cord, giving the sword a restrained, Nordic-inspired appearance.
Heavy Pommel with Copper-Wire Decoration
A substantial pommel sits at the end of the grip and is decorated with copper wire. According to the product description, its tapered shape helps improve the sword's balance and contributes to a comfortable feel in the hand.
Together with the short guard and cord-wrapped wooden grip, the pommel provides a visual counterpoint to the sword's broad and unusually shaped blade.
An Individual Interpretation of Historical Examples
“SKARD” should not be regarded as a reconstruction of one specific archaeological artefact. Instead, Cold Steel® takes inspiration from historical examples of single-edged Viking swords and combines several characteristic design elements in its own interpretation.
A matching scabbard is also included with the sword.
