Scabbard Chape “LINDORM” – Bronze Fitting for Viking Sword Scabbards
The “LINDORM” chape provides a decorative finishing piece for Viking and early medieval-inspired sword scabbards. Made from bronze, the fitting is decorated with intricate serpent knotwork, a motif that appears in various forms throughout both Celtic and Viking Age art.
It is particularly well suited to historical displays, reproductions and individually crafted scabbards where an appropriately early medieval appearance is desired.
Bronze Serpent Knotwork
The surface of the fitting features intertwined serpents arranged in an ornamental knot pattern. Animal and interlace designs of this kind were recurring decorative elements in various early medieval artistic traditions.
The bronze construction and raised ornamentation give the chape a distinctive historical appearance and provide an attractive finishing detail at the lower end of a sword scabbard.
For Custom Scabbards and Replacement Use
“LINDORM” is ideal for constructing a custom sword scabbard. It can also serve as a replacement fitting for many existing Viking sword scabbards, provided that the dimensions of the scabbard match the internal opening of the chape.
Before installation, the width and thickness of the existing or planned scabbard should therefore be compared carefully with the internal dimensions of the fitting.
