Viking Langsax with Raven Motif – Sax Knife with Bone Handle
The Langsax was a versatile blade during the Viking Age, serving as both a practical tool and a sidearm. This piece follows the characteristic broken-back blade design, defined by its distinctive angled spine and powerful profile.
The approximately 33 cm hand-forged blade is crafted from high carbon steel. It has not been fully polished, allowing forging marks and the dark scale layer to remain visible. This preserves its raw, traditional appearance and emphasizes its handcrafted character. The thick spine provides structural strength.
Hugin and Munin – Ravens of Norse Tradition
The polished bone handle is intricately engraved with Hugin and Munin (Old Norse: Huginn and Muninn). Their names are additionally carved in runes.
In Norse tradition, the ravens travel across the world and return each evening to report what they have seen and heard. The raven pair is a recurring and historically documented motif in Viking Age art.
Leather Sheath
The Langsax comes with a durable sheath made from thick, vegetable-tanned leather. The surface is hand-embossed with Nordic knotwork patterns.
Antique-finish brass fittings and two sturdy suspension rings complete the design. The raven motif is repeated on one side of the sheath, where both birds are cast in brass and individually riveted.

Usage Notice
The blade is sharpened but not razor-sharp. It can be further honed if required. This sax knife is primarily designed as a collector’s and decorative item and is not suitable for stage combat.
