Medieval Dress Afra – Dark Blue
The Afra medieval dress is made from durable cotton canvas (100% cotton) and features a loose pull-over cut that ensures comfortable wear and versatile styling options.
The attached skirt section with panel seams creates a beautifully flared silhouette. Side darts in the bust area provide improved fit. All hems are finished with plain-weave trim fabric.
The floor-length dress can be worn as either an outer garment or underdress. Thanks to its sturdy fabric structure, it is particularly suitable for portraying common social classes. Over time, the canvas develops an individual patina similar to denim.
The thickness of the fabric makes the dress ideal for transitional seasons such as spring and autumn. Combined with a Viking apron dress (smokkr), a simple apron or a surcoat, it forms a versatile base for different historical periods.
This type of loose-fitting slip dress, also known as a cotte, was worn throughout the Middle Ages by both men and women as an outer or undergarment. The women’s version was floor-length with long sleeves.
