Viking Spectacle Helmet “HALDOR” with Leather Liner – 10th Century
The impressive Viking spectacle helmet “HALDOR” is a free interpretation of early medieval helmet designs and makes a striking addition to a Viking outfit. Its riveted construction, characteristic face guard and numerous Nordic-inspired ornaments create a particularly distinctive appearance.
Spangenhelms were a widespread type of helmet during the early European Middle Ages. One of the significant archaeological discoveries associated with Scandinavian helmets is the Gjermundbu find, which dates to approximately the 10th century and provides an interesting insight into the design of Nordic helmets from this period.
“HALDOR”, however, is not intended as an authentic replica of a particular historical artefact. Instead, the helmet is a free interpretation of early medieval nasal and spectacle helmets influenced by designs from the Vendel and Viking periods.
The rounded helmet bowl is made from approx. 1.6 mm steel. The brow band, central reinforcing band, band running from ear to ear and distinctive face guard are joined together with robust steel rivets, creating the characteristic segmented construction of the helmet.
Particularly eye-catching are the elaborate Nordic decorations and knotwork covering large areas of the helmet. These decorative elements give “HALDOR” its distinctive Norse-inspired character and also make the helmet an impressive piece for display or a historical collection.
Inside, the helmet is equipped with an adjustable leather liner, allowing the fit to be adapted to the wearer. A sturdy leather chin strap with a brass buckle provides additional support and helps keep the helmet securely in place.
This wearable Viking spectacle helmet is inspired by Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon and Norman culture and is well suited for LARP, fantasy events, medieval fairs, costumes and historical portrayals. “HALDOR” also makes an impressive prop for stage, film and television or a decorative addition to a helmet collection.
